Part 2
Series 1, Webinar 3 - 30 Mar 2020: Remote Lessons and Gesture

What technologies or apps are you using to manage and accomplish your online teaching?
Joseph
I've been primarily using Zoom and WebEx in my work. Zoom has been very successful. The downside is that after 40 minutes you have to pay to use it. With WebEx I've had successful class experience and a colossal failure in a meeting with my colleagues because the University's system was overtaxed.
For score study, I've given my graduate students a sing-and-play assignment: they sing one part and play another part on the piano, and send me a recording. They also do pre-recorded assignments out of the Modus Novus book. For sharing video, I recommend the student upload it to YouTube and send a private link.

Nicole, you have a fitness background too, and you've found some creative ways to use some apps. Tell us about that.

I started using movement analysis apps (generally used for sports and fitness) about six years ago. Three different platforms I recommend, all of which allow you to take video and watch it in slow motion for gesture analysis. Each of them have voiceover capabilities. The students do not have to have these apps to benefit from your analysis.
