more...This collection of essays, the second in a series drawn from Paul Henry Lang's reviews and editorials for The New York Herald Tribune, 1954-1963, deals with works that range from the most frequendy performed to the most widely neglected choral repertoire. Of particular interest to the reader will be various passages that were later absorbed into Lang's Handel biography (George Frideric Handel, New York, 1966) for they appear here in their original form and show to what extent the ideas of the author's larger work were prompted by the impressions and postulates of American choral performances.
