Description
The National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) seeks a Chief Editor of Publications to fulfill two primary responsibilities:
First, the Chief Editor serves as the principal editorial manager for our scholarly journal, The Choral Scholar and American Choral Review. The Chief Editor is responsible for all editorial content and manages a team of editors to publish one annual volume of the journal. The Chief Editor retains the right to appoint as many editors as they deem appropriate. The Chief Editor is charged with developing an Editorial Board consisting of published authors whose interests and expertise must encompass an expansive approach to choral music performance, scholarship, and pedagogy. The Chief Editor shall put forward a call for editors annually to the NCCO membership, in addition to individual outreach to editors with particular expertise or experience. The editorial board shall include individuals representing different geographic regions, types of institutions, types of choral music expertise, and multiple racial/ethnic identities and genders/gender identities.
The Chief Editor is responsible for soliciting scholarly articles for TCS through a transparent process and shall work to ensure that articles represent diverse perspectives on many forms of choral music and pedagogy, in keeping with the mission and vision of NCCO, welcoming submissions in particular from authors whose identities have historically been underrepresented in choral music.
Second, the Chief Editor oversees the management and artistic content of the NCCO Choral Music Series in coordination with our publishing partner ECS Publishing. These duties include the selection of new works to coincide with the National Conference. The Chief Editor is responsible for soliciting new scores from composers, as well as appointing a committee from within and outside the membership of NCCO to review works for inclusion in the ECS NCCO Choral Music Series. The selection committee shall include individuals representing different geographic regions, types of institutions, types of choral music expertise, and multiple racial/ethnic identities and genders/gender identities. They will be charged with selecting a slate of new scores representing an expansive vision of choral music, welcoming submissions in particular from composers whose identities have historically been underrepresented in choral music. The Chief Editor will be available to answer questions from ECS as they prepare the scores for publication and print. The Chief Editor will oversee the Poster Session and Choral Series Session at the national conference as requested by the board.
Ideally, this person will encourage and provide mentorship structures for junior faculty and graduate students and will facilitate collaborative processes.
The Chief Editor serves as a non-voting, ex officio member of the NCCO Executive Board, and reports to the President. The Chief Editor will participate in Executive Board meetings as necessary. They will receive an honorarium for their service.
